In late May, 2008, Quester slipped her lines in Ipswich for the last time. She crossed the Channel to Cherbourg,
called in at the Channel Islands (where she met up with Peter and Paula Schild), visited Brittany and the French coast, cruised
the northern coast of Spain and traveled the west coast of Portugal. Deb left the vessel in Lisbon.
In Lisbon, Quester acquired a new crew .We deivered the boat to Palma de Mallorca, where she will be readied for
the fall Oyster regatta. Crew for the passage were Gene Gornnert, Steve Tetrick, Niall Reid and Mike Yokell.
The entire summer, we were fortunate to be accompanied by Niall Reid, a young, capable English sailor who is fluent in French.
After hauling out in Palma, Gene Gornnert and Mike Yokell spent a few days sport climbing in the heat in Mallorca.
Favorite spots: The rivers on the Brittany coast were wonderful, and the 10 meter tides made life interesting!
On the French coast, we particularly enjoyed L'Sable de Lonne, the starting point for the Vendee Globe round-the-world race.
The lush north coast of Spain was gorgeous. We loved Gijon, the capital of Asturias, and Picos de Europa, about an hour's
drive from Gijon. In Lisbon, we were pleasantly surprised by the Gulbenkian museum. In the Med, we stopped in
our favorite ports: Gibralter, Almerimar, and Cartagena.
